Disability issues everywhere. So what are you doing about it?
Everywhere you look there is someone saying things aren’t right! Disabled people and the elderly seem to be getting it pretty hard and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
I’ve just read another report this time from
the EHRC showing the state of affairs for people with disabilities isn’t very
good. 200 plus pages of research and evaluation with lots of stories from organisations
and individuals telling how bad it is. We’ve been following this process
now for a number of years. And nothing’s changed....nor will it…
Do you really want it to change, do you, really then stop talking and take action. Not saying take to the streets, for some of us even that’s difficult. But there are things you can do. The National Statistics Office say there are 19.2% of the population with a disability and most authorities will tell you this is going to grow. Yet plans are pushed back and back. Cuts grow year in year. Please do not tell me it’s to do with austerity. The facts no longer add up. The rich get richer and the poorer elderly and venerable are squeezed. Stop tutting, stop crying on Facebook. There is things you can do.
Every nation has a turning point, it’s time for ours. It’s no longer about comfort and being able to cope. It is literally in some cases about life and death.
So what to do? Well make the right choice on May the 4th at your local elections. Your vote in itself might not mean much. But 19.2% of the populations will change the course of the country. A clear message to all parties that we are a force to be reckoned with. We matter, they are only there in power through the grace of the public. A lot of talk goes on about the purple pound and what it’s worth to the economy. We need to unite to use the things that are happening and come together as a strong voice. On our own in our little groups where small voices, but together as one voice. That just says enough is enough. Change your path or we will change it for you. A single stick on its own can break a whole lot of sticks together are harder to break or bend.
Don’t wait for answers, give ideas, and suggest alternatives as well. Tell those in charge what you want, what you need. Don’t expect them to offer solutions. They don’t know what it’s like. Don’t leave it to them to do things for you. We have to stand up, stop moaning how bad it is, take charge and most importantly suggest ways to make a difference which is inclusive.
I really feel if we can come together all we need to do as a group is to stand together. Make our voice louder we will be heard, we can make a difference. So get your pens out. Vote and that’s just to start!
